guidelines : photography and videos

The FA encourages appropriate images of children in football. We aim to balance the celebration of youth sport with the safety of all participants.

Mitigating Risks

Our guidance is designed to prevent the identification and locating of children in sensitive circumstances, such as child protection concerns, criminal proceedings, or parental separation cases.

✅ Best Practice

  • Obtain annual parental consent for image use.
  • Focus on the activity, not the individual child.
  • Ensure all players are appropriately dressed.
  • Represent the broad range of youngsters (gender, disability, ethnic minority communities).
  • Report inappropriate images to the FA Case Manager.

❌ Strict Prohibitions

  • Never publish full names alongside photographs without specific written consent.
  • Do not use player profiles with personal info and pictures on websites.
  • Strictly No Images allowed in changing rooms, showers, or toilets.
  • Do not repurpose images for uses not originally agreed upon.

Legal & Facility Rights

  • It is not an offence to take appropriate photos in a public place.
  • No one can decide who takes images on public land.
  • Facility owners can set rules for photography on private land, provided they notify users beforehand.
  • Call the police if you believe someone is acting unlawfully or putting a child at risk.
