Dexter Sports FC has been named the Dorset County FA Club of the Year for the 2025/26 season — the highest recognition a grassroots football club can receive from the county governing body. The award celebrates the club's outstanding contribution to youth football across Poole and the wider Dorset community.

From its base in Poole, Dexter Sports has grown into one of the largest youth football clubs in the county, with 46 teams competing across age groups from under-6s through to adult football. More than 500 players pull on a Dexter shirt each week, supported by over 100 dedicated volunteers — coaches, team managers, committee members, and parents — who give their time to make it all happen.

"This award belongs to every single person who makes Dexter Sports what it is — our coaches, our volunteers, our parents, and most importantly, our players. We set out to give every child in Poole a place to play football, and this recognition shows we're doing something right."

Dexter Sports FC Committee

The Dorset County FA Club of the Year award recognises clubs that demonstrate excellence across all areas of their operation — from player development and coaching standards to safeguarding, club governance, inclusivity, and community engagement. Dexter Sports was selected for the breadth and quality of its provision, its commitment to making football accessible to all, and the systems and structures it has put in place to support its continued growth.

More than just football

What sets Dexter Sports apart is its belief that a football club should be more than just a place to play matches. The club has invested heavily in its infrastructure — from a purpose-built digital platform that streamlines registration, payments, and communication for hundreds of families, to its training programmes, safeguarding procedures, and coach development pathways.

The club's community focus extends beyond the pitch. With teams across every age group and playing level, Dexter Sports provides a home for children of all abilities. Whether a player is taking their first steps in football or progressing through competitive leagues, the club's ethos is clear: every child deserves the chance to play, develop, and enjoy the game.

Looking ahead

Winning the Club of the Year award marks a significant milestone in Dexter Sports' journey, but the work doesn't stop here. The club continues to expand its provision, develop its coaching workforce, and improve the experience for players and families alike. Plans for the coming season include further growth across age groups, continued investment in training facilities, and the ongoing development of the club's digital infrastructure.

The committee would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to everyone who has played a part in this achievement. From the coaches who turn up in all weathers, to the parents who wash kits, run the line, and drive to away matches on cold Sunday mornings — this award is for all of you.

Here's to the next chapter. Come on you Dexters.
