About Dexter Sports

Dexter Sports FC C.I.C was founded in 1975 to provide an opportunity for a few youngsters in the Poole area to play football outside of school.

Since then, we have grown to become a Charter Standard club offering football from ages 4 to 16 and including Ability Counts and Walking Football teams.

Our teams play in the Dorset Youth Football league (DYFL) & Dorset Mini-Soccer League (DSML) as well Dorset Cup and Dorset Youth Football Cup competitions.

Dexter Sports is affiliated to the FA through Dorset County FA.

The ethos at the Club is that of an extended family. New members are made welcome, whatever their skill level, and the Club seeks to promote enjoyment of the game irrespective of natural ability. The emphasis is one of self development, self discipline and fun rather han win at all costs. To encourage this ethos, team managers actively promote the involvement of parents and use opportunities of social events to further their support for the Club and the young people within it.

History

Dexter Sports Youth Football Club came into being on Monday June 16th 1975.

This is when the inaugural meeting took place. Opposite you can see the letter sent out to parents inviting them to this first meeting.

The Club was the brainchild of Bryan Williams and Malcolm Irish. Malcolms’ wife worked at Dexter Sports shop in Poole and the Club took the name of this shop. Originally Bryan and Malcolm wanted an all red strip (the England away kit) but the only kits the shop had in stock were the Royal Blue and Red strip we know today.

Charter Standard

At Dexters we are a FA Charter Standard accredited club. The Charter Standard is awarded to clubs rigorously adjudged to be well-run and sustainable – and which prioritise child protection, quality coaching and implementation of the Respect programme.

CIC & CASC

In 2017 the Club became a CIC (Community Interest Company). In effect a limited company which now requires directors.
We are now working towards becoming a CASC (Community Amateur Sports Club).
This allows local amateur sports clubs to register with HMRC and benefit from a range of tax reliefs.

Constitution

The Club is committed to developing the skills of its members, and provides encouragement and some financial support for both parents and young members to attend accredited coaching and refereeing courses as well as other, appropriate courses.
